POINTS UPDATES EXPLAINED-- JUST A REMINDER

01-03-2017 01:10:23 PM

POINTS UPDATES EXPLAINED As you have noticed, the points system and rankings have had a substantial overhaul.  To ensure fairness, we have always had players advance through their local regional leaderboards to all championships.  We felt this was much more of a fair measure of success than just one universal EPT leaderboard.  The problem with that has always been that players did not receive credit for points if they played in an event outside of their region ... that has changed on a controlled basis.

In order to allow players to check out another regional event and still get credit, get credit for their championship scores, and also get credit for any and all charity events, we had to make some updates and upgrades. We hope these upgrades also make it easier to understand the points as well.

Player Statistics

The player statistics is not gone, you just have to log in first in order to see them. Once logged in you can look at your profile and quickly see your current ranking for the seasonal leaderboard, monthly leaderboard, all time leaderboards, and your player statistics.

TYPES OF EVENTS CLASSIFIED

Primary Region Points
Your primary region is decided based on what region you play the majority of the time of the season. Based where you play the most that season, you become a ______ region player.  your points are put in a monthly and season leader-board that matches your primary tournament (region). This is displayed on your player profile.

Secondary Region Points
Secondary Region points means you played outside of your region.  Before these would not have counted at all for you, but now  they can count for your primary region, as long as you did not play more than 20% of your primary region in a secondary region.  A good rule of thumb is to play secondary events no more than 1 in 5 times your primary region.   In order to start getting "inactive" points to become activated, you will have to play in more primary regional events.

If a secondary region is not being counted, it will be grey to display that it is inactive until more primary events are attended.

Charity/Neutral Events
Charity events count as their own region and also count as a neutral event for players who's home region is another pub region. Charity events will count as a neutral event if you are primarily a pub poker player for those that play the majority of the time in charity event will become a primary charity player and compete on the charity leaderboards.

Saturday events are neutral events as well. A player in any region can play in our Saturday events and the points will count towards whatever region you play.

Championship Events
Championship events are counted as neutral events. Our monthly, seasonal, and championship events held throughout the year will always count towards your points races on whatever leader-board you call home.

Monthly Points
Even though your profile only shows the secondary points released for the season, the same restriction applies to the monthly leaderboards.  If you play outside of your primary region at an event that is not considered neutral, you need 5 primary seasons to release 1 secondary region in that particular month.

ANNUAL $30K POINTS CHAMPIONSHIP LEVELS

03-18-2014 04:38:35 PM

We use a percentage, instead of a flat cut-off, for our chip advantages to ensure fairness across all the regions.

The leader-boards have levels and chip icons representing the Tiers and Chip-stacks for our annual $30,000 Championships.

With the nature of differing fields of players per region, it was necessary to make the chip advantages based on a percentage instead of a flat cut-off. As participation increases in your region, the tiers will expand as you can see on the leaderboards.

Level 1 - Top 10% of Region
- You are qualified in the top 15% of the region
- Base 20,000 starting stack

Level 2 - Top 8% of Region
- You are qualified in the top 12% of the region
- 22,000 starting stack

Level 3 - Top 5% of Region
- You are qualified in the top 9% of the region
- 24,000 starting stack

Level 4 - Top 3% of Region
- You are qualified in the top 6% of the region
- 26,000 starting stack

Level 5 - Top 1% of Region
- You are qualified in the top 3% of the region
- 28,000 starting stack

NO OUTSIDE DRINKS ALLOWED AT ANY EPT EVENTS

10-09-2013 12:36:24 PM

SPECIFICALLY THE CHAMPIONSHIP VENUE WILL BE MONITORING THIS.

Francis Farm management also wanted to make sure we announced to all players before the event, that it is their policy and MA State Law not to allow any outside beverages at a liquor licensed establishment, whether alcoholic or non-alcoholic. There was a few incidents last season that has now required us to hire a security staff to enforce this rule for this championship.

As part of our agreement to host the event, we have ensured to Francis Farm that we will disqualify any players attempting to bring outside beverages onto their property, this includes the parking lot
. Coffee and plenty of beverage options will be available for purchase by Francis Farm. We take this policy very serious, please respect this at our championship and all EPT events. Finish up your coffee on the way in your car, or purchase one there.

Players caught trying to hide any beverages, nips, beers, waters will be disqualified from the tournament. Players found out going to their car for beers or liquor will also be disqualified from the Championship.

FUTURE OF EPT PUB EVENTS

In the past year, there has been an escalating amount of complaints from venues where players have been found to bring in outside beverages into our hosting venues. Some of these venues have actually dropped our events because of it.  I blame myself for not making sure our staff is enforcing this, but that needs to come to an end.

Keep in mind that all our hosting venues put a lot of resources and efforts into hosting a great event with the expectation that you will patronize their establishment. Whether you realize it or not, bringing in a beverage from another business is taken as a gross insult to them (yes even your dunkies).  Good venues are hard to find so please do your part in making sure our current venues enjoy your presence at our events.

TIP YOUR WAITSTAFF
Please also keep in mind that staff will gladly take care of you, if you take care of them in return.  Treat all waitstaff with respect and dignity, and please show some appreciation with a standard gratuity.  Standard expectations for someone who got your a drink is $1, we did not create this expectation it is just what any bartender or waitress would appreciate for their efforts and what they usually get from other patrons.

I think we all agree that these tournaments are a lot of fun, please do not ruin it by insulting our venues or staff at our events. In order to ensure the future of this league, we will be enforcing maximum penalties of suspension or possible expulsion from future EPT events for players that do not respect our no outside beverages policy.

Good venues are hard to find so please do your part in making sure our current venues enjoy your presence at our events.

Here is the simple math on our bar poker tournaments:
The more our venues appreciate us will mean word of mouth is great = more places to play
More Places To Play = More Prizes and Larger Championship Prizes

NEW RANKINGS ARE LIVE!

06-30-2013 11:09:35 AM

As you might have noticed, we have done a significant amount of updates to the rankings engine and database driving the new points system. The new rankings page is cleaner, faster loading, and now gives the capability to go out of region and still get points in your primary region!

NEW RANKINGS PAGE

It might still look similar but is without the clutter of non-relevant information making it easier to navigate and also load the rankings that are relevant.

NEW POINTS SYSTEM EXPLAINED

We created an algorithm that assigns players to a particular region based on where they play the majority of the time. Players can control this by playing more in the region that they feel they would have the best shot of advancing to the Points Championship or just based on where they like to play the most.

Primary Leader-board Totals=
Primary Region Points + Secondary Region points (< 20% of primary) + Universal Events

OUT OF REGION POINTS

You can now be awarded your points inside of your primary region, even when you play outside of the primary area on a limited bases. Our system determines your primary region based on the majority of tournaments you play, then in chronological order you are given credit for out of region tournaments so long as that doesn't make up more than 20% of your primary events.

There are also "universal" events that will always count towards your home region ranking. Currently our universal events are the championship events, special events, and the charity events, you can go to any universal event and get credit for both the Monthly Ranking and the Seasonal 20 Ranking without it counting against your 20% out of region allowance.

For Example:
Jim Doe went to 100 total events this season and his primary region is Rhode Island.
80 Rhode Island Events (out of region allowance is 20% of primary #)
10 Out of region events (allowance is up to 16 events based on 80 primary events)
10 Universal events are always added to score

Because Jim went 80 times to his home region, he could have gone 16 times to still get full credit at another region.

Why did we make this change?
• Allow players to try out another area without missing out on points once in a while and get the full EPT experience but still keep the same competition among the regions.
• Allows players to always be able to play special events, championship events, and charity events without missing out on points.
⁃ Player of the Month Points Count!
⁃ Championship Event Points Count!
⁃ Holiday Event Points Count!
• Cleans up database and get's rid of duplicate names in different regional leaderboards.
• Cleans up schedule so that there are not 4 event results for different regions (i.e. Luxury Box). This was confusion players who would look at the past event to see only 4 names.
• Bonus points now calculated based on total attendance that day (not attendance from your region)

How should you adjust your play?

• Pick a home region that you feel is the most convenient for you and make sure that the majority of the events you are attending is from that area.
• Make sure the ratio of where you are playing outside of your home region is never more than 20%

Charity Players
• Even though the charity events are considered Universal for players from pub regions, it still counts as a primary region for those that play charity events the majority of the time.
• This also means you can play a pub event once in a while and still increase your charity ranking. If you go to 40 charity events in a season, you can try out 8 pub events to still get credit towards your Charity Leaderboard.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact us, we are glad to help!
